Each summer at United Friends School, something remarkable happens: our classrooms open to the outdoors, our imaginations stretch a little further, and the joy of learning takes on new forms. This year’s summer camps were no exception.

From gardening and worm-inspired art to hand-sewn crafts and vibrant watercolor still lifes, UFS campers dove headfirst into creative exploration. Our “In the Garden” camp kicked things off with muddy hands, curious minds, and a deep dive into the natural world. Campers learned about soil and seeds, weeded the school garden, painted pots, and even set up a playful farm stand - putting stewardship, collaboration, and imagination into action.
In the “Handwork & Crafting” camp, artistic expression took center stage. Campers used oil pastels and watercolors to create stunning still-life florals, explored different craft techniques, and proudly shared their work. Whether designing something from scratch or experimenting with new materials, each experience encouraged creative thinking and problem-solving - core habits of project-based learning at UFS.
Even in the summer months, the heart of a UFS education, rooted in Quaker values and a spirit of inquiry, is fully present. Campers aren’t simply kept busy; they’re engaged in meaningful, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity, foster independence, and promote collaboration. This kind of learning invites children to ask questions, reflect deeply, and make connections - all essential skills they’ll carry with them throughout the school year and beyond.
Quaker principles, such as simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship, aren’t tacked on; they are woven into every activity. Whether children are tending to the garden, working through a collaborative project, or pausing for reflection, they’re learning to live with intention and compassion.

More Highlights: “Icky, Sticky, Slimy”
One of the most delightfully messy camps this summer was “Icky, Sticky, Slimy,” where campers explored the sensory side of science and nature through slime-making, spin art, and marble painting. These hands-on activities encouraged creativity while introducing basic concepts of chemistry, physics, and cause-and-effect in a playful, tactile way.
Looking Ahead to the School Year
As we prepare to open our doors for the new school year, that same spirit of joy, wonder, and curiosity is already guiding us forward. Each fall brings a fresh beginning—new classrooms, new projects, new friendships, and new opportunities for students to grow, explore, and thrive.
At United Friends School, we believe that how children learn is just as important as what they know. As a preschool through 8th-grade Quaker school, we offer a learning environment where academic excellence and child-centered exploration are deeply rooted in enduring values. Our students are known, nurtured, and encouraged to grow into curious, compassionate learners and community members.
We offer rolling admissions throughout the year as space allows and we would love to connect with families interested in joining our community.
Come see what makes UFS such a joyful place to learn and grow.
