First Light: A Play-Based Program for Two-Year-Olds
Beginning January 2026, United Friends School will offer First Light, a full-day program for two-year-olds rooted in Quaker values and a nature-based and project-centered education.
First Light invites our youngest learners into a warm, nurturing environment where play is the foundation of learning and each child is known, valued, and supported.

A Joyful, Intentional Start
Each day at First Light is thoughtfully designed to reflect the developmental needs of two-year-olds. Children explore, create, and connect through a rhythm that includes:
-
Music and movement
-
Outdoor play and nature exploration
-
Sensory activities and imaginative play
-
Stories, songs, and early language experiences
-
Shared meals and rest time
Our experienced early childhood educators guide the day with care and consistency, creating space for both independence and belonging to flourish.

Full-Day Care Grounded in Values
The program runs from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, offering families high-quality care in a community that reflects their values.
First Light provides:
-
A safe, developmentally appropriate space
-
Low teacher-to-child ratios
-
A focus on social-emotional growth
-
A culture of peace, respect, and reflection
-
A connection to the broader UFS community

A Natural Extension of the UFS Experience
Located on the first floor of our main building, First Light is integrated into the life of the school while remaining specially designed for toddlers. The space has been renovated to meet all licensing requirements and to support curiosity, comfort, and exploration.
As part of United Friends School, First Light offers families the opportunity to begin their child’s journey in a community that values joyful learning, inclusivity, and lifelong curiosity.
Enrollment for First Light opens in October 2025. The program begins in January 2026.
