First Light at United Friends School is a full-day program designed for one- and two-year-olds, offering a nurturing environment where curiosity, play, and exploration guide every experience. Grounded in Quaker values and inspired by nature, the program encourages children to discover the world around them through hands-on, sensory-rich activities that support early social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Our youngest friends engage in music, movement, art, and outdoor experiences that foster imagination, independence, and confidence. Each child is known and valued, forming meaningful connections with teachers and peers in a warm, supportive community. Through guided exploration and playful learning, First Light lays the foundation for future growth, helping children develop curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning from the very start.

A Joyful, Intentional Start

Each day at First Light is thoughtfully designed to reflect the developmental needs of two-year-olds. Children explore, create, and connect through a rhythm that includes:

Music and movement
Outdoor play and nature exploration
Sensory activities and imaginative play
Stories, songs, and early language experiences
Shared meals and rest time

Our experienced early childhood educators guide the day with care and consistency, creating space for both independence and belonging to flourish.

The program runs from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, offering families high-quality care in a community that reflects their values.

A Natural Extension of the UFS Experience

Located on the first floor of our main building, First Light is integrated into the life of the school while remaining specially designed for toddlers. The space has been renovated to meet all licensing requirements and to support curiosity, comfort, and exploration.
