Science Teacher

United Friends School is seeking a joyful and energetic science teacher who is passionate about experiential learning and outdoor education for our 1st-8th grade students. This is a half-time position and the hours/days worked are flexible.

Responsibilities include developing and implementing a science curriculum and working collaboratively with students, colleagues, and parents. Our science program is student-centered and inquiry-based. A secure background in physical, life, and earth & space sciences, with additional emphasis on environmental science/citizen monitoring, is integral. Our school has established key partnerships with local organizations to enhance our outdoor education and stewardship.

Comfort with Quaker education is essential.

Duties:

  • Develop and implement engaging science lesson plans
  • Utilize various teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles
  • Conduct experiments and demonstrations to enhance student understanding
  • Provide academic advising and support to students
  • Assist students with research projects and experiments
  • Incorporate algebra, discrete math, and other relevant subjects into science lessons
  • Offer tutoring sessions for students needing extra help
  • Organize field trips to science-related events or locations
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development
  • Utilize library services for additional resources

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Science, Environmental Education or Education; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting
  • Proficiency in lesson planning and classroom management
  • Ability to dissect complex scientific concepts for student comprehension
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and implementation

Substitute Teachers

United Friends School is hiring substitute teachers.

Preschool and/or Elementary teaching experience and familiarity with Quaker philosophy of education preferred. Care and enthusiasm a must.

This position is on an as-needed basis. Successful applicants can expect to be called in 5-10 times per school year for half or full days of teaching.
